MEN'S SHED
After months of planning, and a number of "recon" trips by the movers &
shakers, the Men's Shed was officially opened by Shire of Loddon
Mayor Cr Christine Brooke & Neighbourhood House President Marg Guthrie, on
the 17th of June 2009.
The Shire of Loddon made available the building at
32 Kelly St, previously the Maternal & Child Welfare rooms, which is
conveniently located adjacent to Kelly Park and the Neighbourhood House.
The steering committee spent many hours completing an application for
funding to build a workshop/shed at the rear of the existing building and
were delighted when a substantial grant was made available from DPCD
through the "Modernising Neighbourhood Houses" program.

The construction of the new
workshop building is now nearing completion.
The hot weather caused some delay with
progress at the new workshop shed but now as you can see in the photo
taken from the same position as when the frame was erected, it has now
been completed with external cladding. Next will come the wiring and
fitting with benches for working on. As we are working on a tight budget
it would be very much appreciated if anyone who had items of workshop
equipment that they no longer need, if they
would be prepared to
donate them for use in this shed. If
anyone can help please take the item along to the Shed whenever the gate
is open, or contact Fred Belli on 5455 7410.
It is envisaged that a wood and metal working
facility will be established where the art of these trades can be learned
so that men can use this opportunity to make or repair everyday items in
their own home.

The men are providing morning tea/coffee at the monthly market, and
funds raised from this stall help to offset costs.
The Men's
Shed is open every Wednesday from 9.30am to late afternoon and most Friday
mornings.
Consideration is being given to an afternoon or evening meeting during the
warmer months with a view to attracting men who are unable to attend
during the daytime.
Every man is welcome - there is plenty to do, or just come for a cuppa or
a gas-bag.
